Current stage

I feel that I have completed my second draft for my radio advert.  I am aware that I may need to re-record my advert as some parts are not clear. Moreover, on the 4th of January I am filming my sponsorship sequence. I have made a shooting schedule and will be constantly looking at my animatic to remind myself of what shots need to be done and for how long.

New radio advert (second draft)

I have re-recorded my radio advert as before, the sound was not working properly. I have uploaded all of my sounds into Adobe Premiere and they are all working fine. I think the sound in my advert is eloquently and clearly spoken, making the advert professional and sophisticated which was my initial intention.
However, the male speaker is clear but I feel that my protagonist line was not recorded up to a high standard as in some places, audiences may find it hard to understand. This is a problem as this is the part of my advert where the protagonist says the contact details, which audience’s would need to listen to. Therefore, if it is not spoken properly the audience may find it hard to note down the details which could potentially put them off. I feel that I need to re-record this so that my advert is professional and clearly understood.
Moreover, I am happy with the background music in my background which I hope will be reappearing in my other adverts to create consistency throughout my adverts (project).

Below is my new re-recorded radio advert:

Locations

All of my locations will mostly be indoors, due to weather conditions. This is a problem which I am going to have to face when filming. The part of my adverts which I will have to film outside is the last part of my sponsorship advert where the couple get into the car. However, I will ensure that I film in daylight as the camera which I am using will not be clear when in darkness.

Location for sponsorship sequence:

As my sponsorship sequence is featuring a wedding, I wanted the location to look and appear grand. The reason for this is because on my survey results (see blog post Tuesday 24th of September 2013) I asked my audience "what event was best organised and why?" - a lot of my answers were based upon location - saying how the location of the wedding and parties was 'beautiful' and 'stunning', I wanted to ensure I created this image by using such a grand house. I wanted colours such as white, silver and gold to feature mostly in the background. I want the wedding to look elegant and sophisticated, which will engage my target audience. This is because when researching, I came across an advert called 'Fabulous Events' (see analysis at Thursday 12th of September) where the advert displayed images of the events and all of the images displayed extravagant. bold, eye catching and sophisticated events. This is a feature which I wanted to develop in my adverts because I feel that it will engage my specific target audience.

These two images are where the bride and groom will walk, followed along by their peers. The table will be where the bride and groom cut the cake. There will then be an outside shot of the couple walking out of the venue (house) which also will look grand.

Location for TV adverts:

I am filming both my TV adverts at the same time, this it will be in the same location. The first location will be in a kitchen/front room. Below is images of what rooms I will be using, however, I may use some decorations to make the room appear more linked into the theme.

Actors

For my protagonist, I am going to have a female. I have chosen to use a female as just over half (56%) of my target audience is females. Therefore, in all of my events (parties, weddings etc) I am going to have 50% male/female. However, to include slightly more females I am going to use a female as my protagonist. The female I am using is Cindy Sidhu. I have specifically chosen an Asian as a third of my audience are Asian, and in my advert everyone is White. This meant I would be targeting both ethnicity. Additionally, Asian's are stereotyped to be smart and professional, which is significant because I want my company to appear to be sophisticated and trust worthy with a team of intelligent individuals.

Furthermore, in my sponsorship sequence and TV adverts I will be using some of the same actors. Below is images of all of the names and images of actors I am going to use.

  1. Maxwell Powell
  2. Callum Caroll
  3. Gregor Morrison
  4. Sam Anstiss
  5. Imogen Welsford
  6. Bethany Eley
  7. Charlotte Fischer
  8. Lucy Wise

Recording of radio advert

Today I recorded my radio advert on a voice recorder. I learnt how to use the voice recorder appropriately which helped me when recording my radio advert at home. I found the process reasonably short as it took 20 seconds to record, however, I did more than one attempt. I then put the sound file onto the mac and then put it into Premiere where I was able to listen and edit the sound.

This is my first radio advert attempt:

I am aware that I might have to re-record or change my advert therefore I am calling this "my first attempt".

Once progressing my advert, I have realised my sound is not working properly. This is because I forgot to turn up the sound which now has made it permenantly quiet. This means I am going to record my radio advert again. I have also realised the background noises are distracting in the advert which will prevent my advert from sounding professional. In my next attempt, I am going to ensure I record it with no background sounds.

*clinking of glasses* (signifiying beginning of speech) - I would just like to say thank you all for coming - and emerald events for helping create my dream event into a reality. Emerald events have helped with every single detail - the location, venues, theme and the small things like the unique decor and name cards." - (the protagonist) "To find out more information then email Emeraldevents@info.co.uk or dial 0800 833 939. Animatic Final

Below is my four final animatics for my adverts.

In all of my adverts I have used the same, soothing music. I chose this music because when analysing adverts I found that soothing music usually creates a peaceful mood within the scene, and I want my scene to be tranquil and enjoyable. I am also using the same protagonist throughout as in my analysis of adverts (in general) I found that usually the same speaker is kept to create familiarity and consistency between the advertising campaign.

Even though I have created some original, unique ideas I feel that I have also developed some from existing media. My sequence begins with the protagonist talking to directly to the camera. I was inspired my Kate Moss - Rimmel London advert where she talks directly the the audience. I think the next shot of the wide angle will engage the audience as it will allow the audience to see the event as a whole and engage in the scenery, sound and characters. The protagonist then talks to the camera, whilst being in the event. I gained this idea from the Kate Moss ad also as she does this in the Rimmel advert as she talks to the camera then gets involved with a band. I think this will appeal to my audience as I am combining a presentation style advert with slice of life. The close ups I have used throughout the advert will attract the audience because it will present the happiness between the couple. Although Pro Cruises does not show many close ups, the bond between the couple in the advert looks real and I wanted to re-create this, just with a different shot. (Analysis can be found on Sunday 8th September 2013).

My TV advert two has a very different narrative to my advert one, although I have used many similar shots. Similarly to my advert one, I have also used a presentation style advert (inspired by Rimmel), although in this advert I have taken it to the next level and made the whole advert a presentation style. I watched an advert made by 'USwith' which inspired me to crate this advert and the shots I have used in it. I was inspired by the mid shots and how the protagonists and different characters were able to talk directly the camera. I liked this because it allowed the audience to engage with the characters. Also, due to the dialogue saying how they have had experience with USwith, and in my advert, experience with Emerald Events - it makes the information which the advert says more reliable.

I feel that both my ancillary texts are more original than my two main adverts. This is because for these two adverts I was inspired by existing media but the majority of my ideas came about when brainstorming in the initial stages of the project. In my sponsorship sequence I use a variety of shots such as wide angles, close ups and mid shots. Although, in most sponsorship sequences I looked at, shots usually tended to stay the same e.g. lots of close ups or lots of wide shots. Furthermore, in my radio advert the reason why I decided to make it a speech is because speeches are linked to events and therefore the advert was based upon my original idea. Although, I watched the Alton Towers advert and the speaker listed many great things about the part which inspired my list of three in my advert. I think this will engage the audience as they will be provided with an insight into the amount of things Emerald Events can help them with.

*sound added*: Animatic

I have now added in all my sound and dialogue to my animatic. I feel that this is an important part of the process as I can now properly visualise what all my adverts are going to look like. I now feel that I have a more advanced understanding of timing and sound which will be important when coming to editing. I have recorded my dialogue on a device which I have edited onto Adobe Premiere.
